Doing any sort of substance will definitely have its effects on your ascension process, because when you do a substance you connect to a certain realm, or dimension, that this substance’ dimensional conscience is linked to.

When taken in small doses, Marijuana gives me a “great high” (vibrant colours/textures, pain relief, “hyper awareness”, euphoria, connection to Higher Self, etc.) and still allows me to be focused enough to not be hijacked by the effects. 
And with that being said, I think that many other natural psychedelic substances such as psilocybin can actually be of great help to your ascension process because they facilitate for consciousness expansion, ”realizing” Self., etc.
The psychedelic journey is a great feat, it is not one to be taken lightly, but it is also not to be taken too seriously. It’s not for everyone in the sense that you have to be ready physically and mentally, for this tends to blow people’s minds open and change the way they perceive reality. It may not happen in one trip but repeated use will definitely trigger a change within you if you flow with it.

The key to a positive trip is to open your heart. Once you open your heart you allow positive energies to flood through to your very core. You must penetrate the experience with respect and remain centred but open.
I find that meditating and listening to music is a great way to spend time while riding the cosmic energies of these substances.
